Neva is 3 months old!

For FHE last week we went to our good friends Tina and Tyrell's house to eat pizza and decorate Christmas cookies. We had a lot of fun with them.

Neva and daddy's cookies!
Here is a brief update on our lives this past month.
Nothing too spectacular has happened lately, except for Neva's cute new developments. These are a few of the things Neva does now:
She loves it when we read books to her. Well, mostly she likes looking at and grabbing the colorful pages, which leads me to the next thing:
She has been grabbing things and playing with her toys. Just about all of it goes straight to her mouth. She always has a huge smile on her face and loves it when you give her attention! Since she was 2 months old she has been laughing. It is so funny! Lately we have been putting her in the swing on the highest speed and she just thinks it is the funniest thing. She will laugh for about 10 minutes straight. It's hilarious! When she wakes up from her naps she will usually just lay there and babble to herself until mommy or daddy comes to get her. And when she sees us walk in her face lights up with a huge smile and she will let out an excited yelp! She likes spending time with her daddy when he doesn't have to work. But I hardly ever know what he is saying to her because it is always in spanish.
She has been in size three diapers for the last 3 weeks. She's a huge baby haha! At her 2 month check up the pediatrician said that she was off the charts for her weight and height. She was in the 110th percentile at 16 pounds haha. She obviously gets enough to eat. I think all of the extra fat she has on her helps her sleep longer at night because she sleeps 10-12 hours every night! It has been so nice. I don't think we could have asked for an easier baby. She has been so wonderful. We just love her so much and are so glad she is apart of our little family. We will be flying home to Riverside for christmas next week and are a little nervous for Neva's first flight. Hopefully she sleeps the whole way. We hope everyone has a fun and safe Christmas!

Not even 2 months and already 15 pounds!!

15 pounds of juicy sweetness!! I love this girl so much! She has been so much fun to have in our family. Not only does she eat well, but she sleeps well (last night she slept for almost 10 hours!!) She loves her sleep just like her daddy :) I don't think she ever really was a newborn. She basically skipped the newborn size diapers and went right into size ones. At 7 weeks she is already in size twos!! She is also busting out of all her clothes and is now wearing size 3-6 months. What a chunk! She loves nursing and loves her pacifier. For the last couple weeks it was really sad because she wouldn't go to Tim. She would scream at the top of her lungs if I handed her off to him. As soon as I would take her back she would stop crying haha. We think she was afraid of him because he was gone working a lot and got used to me and my high pitched girl voice. So Tim has been making sure to spend extra time with her so she gets used to him, and we can already see a difference. Now she is starting to love chillin with her daddy. Neva has been smiling a ton and last night was the first time she laughed. It was the cutest and funniest thing! We have been trying to take advantage of the last of the warm weather before winter hell hits and take her on as many walks as we can. It's starting to get really cold outside and inside our apartment. I'm always paranoid at night that my little chunk isn't warm enough, so I pile on all the blankets. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to keep your baby warm enough at night when it gets to below zero weather outside?? Her room is always the coldest because our windows suck. I could really use some good advice before the Rexburg winter hits. Thanks

4 weeks

Neva has been such a great baby! She has been sleeping 7 hours at night lately, and it is GREAT! She also is a HUGE baby, weighing almost 13 pounds already! At her last check up the pediatrician said that she was in the 97th percentile for her weight. What a chunk!

Neva Michelle Burbach

Our sweet daughter Neva finally decided to join us in this world five days after her due date on Thursday September 3, 2009 after 34 hours of labor. My water broke at about 5:30 am on wednesday and the labor began. After laboring at home for 20 long, painful hours, we felt that it was time to go to the hospital to see how far I was dialated. I thought for sure I was transitioning and would be dialated to an 8 or 9. My mom and Tim also thought so because physically and emotionally I was showing signs of transition. But wow were we all wrong! I was only dialated to a 4! I wanted to die at that point. I felt so discouraged having labored for 20 hard hours and finding out I was only progressed that much. I really wanted to do this naturally. My midwife was beginning to be very concerned because the chance of infection increases the longer you go after your water breaks and I still had a long way to go before pushing. She felt that I needed pitocin to try and get me to progress more--another thing I absolutely did NOT want. But all I could think of was getting my daughter out of me safely and getting rid of the excruciating pain. I knew that my body wasn't strong enough at that point to be on pitocin after the previous 20 hours without the epidural. I also was only on 4 hours of sleep from the night before so you can imagine that I was extremely exhausted. I got the epidural and the pitocin and waited to see how fast I would progress. My midwife came in 3 hours later to check on me and I was only at a 5. After another 5 hours I was still at a 5!! So much for pitocin! This baby did NOT want to come! So they upped the pitocin a couple times throughout the next morning and finally at 12: 45 the next day it was time for me to push, but by that time I could tell that the epidural had almost completely worn off. I was DYING!! The contractions were so intense because they had me on the highest dose of pitocin. I seriously thought I was going to die! After about 2 long hours of pushing, my midwife was worried because Neva still wasn't where she wanted her to be. She thought that maybe her head was posterior so she called the doctor in to take over. The doctor ended up using the vacuum to get my poor little baby out. That was probably the worst pain I have ever gone through in my life! It was even worse than the hardest contractions I felt with the pitocin. It literally felt like someone took a torch to me down there for 30 minutes straight! Finally, her head came out along with the rest of her body and it was instant relief! The joy I felt when they laid her on me and I held her for the first time is impossible to explain. She is the most beautiful thing in this world! I love her so much and know that Tim and I are so blessed to have been entrusted with one of Heavenly Father's spirits.
